Carol Churcher
Head of Sequencing Operations
Carol Churcher first worked in the virology group at the University of Cambridge; it was there that she learned sequencing techniques. Later, Carol joined Nobel laureate Fred Sanger's laboratory for a three year post in molecular biology. Carol joined the Sanger Institute in 1993 and worked as Coordinator of the Pathogen Sequencing Projects before becoming Head of Sequencing Operations at the end of 2007. The sequencing led by Carol has included malaria, viruses and bacteria such as S. aureus (including the superbug, MRSA) and M. tuberculosis, the causative agent of tuberculosis.
