Finishing Co-ordinator

Darren was inspired by a secondary school biology teacher who introduced him to the microscopic world; this led him to train in biochemistry. After turning down a management job for a major supermarket chain, Darren answered an ad in New Scientist to join the Human Genome Project at the Sanger Institute. An MBA helped Darren progress to a management role and he now coordinates the finishing teams at the Sanger Institute. Finishers use computer-based and lab-based tools to complete high quality, complete DNA sequences from the many fragments produced by the sequencing reaction.
