Julian Parkhill

Head of Pathogen Sequencing Unit, Director of Sequencing

Julian trained in bacterial genetics and in his spare time learnt how to use computers to analyse and interpret sequence data. His first role at the Sanger Institute was to annotate the tuberculosis genome, which had just started being sequenced. Julian now manages the Pathogen Sequencing Unit (PSU) at the Sanger Institute. The PSU have sequenced important human pathogens including those that cause tuberculosis, malaria, plague and meningitis.
