Karen Oliver

Production

Karen originally worked in a finishing team at the Sanger Institute completing or 'troubleshooting' the genomes of yeast and pathogens (including the bacterium that causes tuberculosis and the malaria parasite). She then went on to lead a team finishing the zebrafish and human genomes and now leads a sequencing team; they take the DNA from large organisms such as humans, pigs and gorillas and carry out a set of chemistries to determine the order of the DNA bases.
