Subcloning

Matt qualified and completed postdoctoral work in molecular biology, before joining John Sulston, founding director of the Sanger Institute in his cloning work. Matt's role at the Sanger Institute was initially to subclone the nematode worm and human DNA. Subcloning involves preparing fragments of DNA for sequencing by splitting them into small segments and packaging them into pieces of bacterial DNA. Matt currently leads the subcloning team at the Sanger Institute and continues to use lab-based techniques. Matt has also helped subclone the mouse and pig genomes.
