Sean Humphray

Core Mapping Group

Until the end of 2007, Sean led the Core Mapping Group at the Sanger Institute. Sean's team used lab- and computer-based techniques to organise regions of chromosomes into "road maps" at the start of the sequencing pipeline. They also contributed to the mapping of human chromosomes 6, 22 and X, and in 1998 Sean became the Sequencing Coordinator of chromosome 9. Within chromosome 9 his team identified nearly 1200 genes and found large regions of repeated sequence. Sean's team also mapped the genomes of other organisms, including the mouse, zebrafish and pig.
