What makes a bird a bird or a mammal a mammal? Grouping creatures together can show what links different creatures together.

Classify!

Scientists group animals and plants together to show how related they are to one another. However, appearance alone canโ€™t always be used to classify a living thing – DNA sequencing can also be used to identify species and work out how closely they are related to others.

Through this sorting activity you will use a simple classification key to sort and identify animals (vertebrates and invertebrates) based on their features.
