This collection brings together people who use biology and computers to do a variety of different jobs.

There are many different careers connected to biology and computing, and it can be hard for teachers and students to see what these roles really involve. This collection of short videos and classroom resources introduce real people working in genomics, genetics, and bioinformatics at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. Each career resource describes a different job that uses biology with computers, as well as the pathway each individual took to get that role, including the subjects they studied at school.

Created for use in the classroom, these free teaching resources will help teachers link the skills students have to real jobs in the growing areas of bioinformatics, data science and software development.

Teachers can find other collections, such as laboratory science roles, as well as a free virtual work experience in the careers hub. Additional tailored classroom activities linked to bioinformatics are available in our activities section, with examples listed at the end of this page.

Below you'll find three career videos, six career profiles, and a zip folder with all the profiles available for you to download and use in the classroom. Career videos are approximately 3mins long, and profiles are each two pages, designed for A5 size.
