My career in genomics: cancer biology
Niki Patel is a research assistant in the Cancer Genome Project at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. In this film she describes her day-to-day role in the laboratory, processing tumour samples and setting up experiments to analyse DNA.
Niki completed a degree in genetics and then worked in a cold and flu research company. Now she has achieved her goal of working at the Sanger Institute and is deciding what to do next in her career.
The Cancer Genome Project uses human genome sequence and mutation detection techniques to find changes in DNA involved in the development of human cancers. The project aims to develop tools and identify new treatment targets for tackling cancer.
